Why repeat stuff which is already on the internet? There are many good sites with words. Here is one with both shanties and sea songs, it tends to give the US version of many of the songs. Here is another larger site with two hundred songs. Unfortunately it is a bit clunky to navigate, but it does give the British version of most songs. Finally here are the responses and choruses of some common shanties.
Please remember as with all traditional songs there are no unique correct words!
There are no shortage of shanties and songs of the sea on YouTube to help with learning tunes. Here are some of the more common:
Banks of the Yackandanda/Sacremento
Barrett’s privateers (Stan Rogers)
Chicken on a raft (Cyril Tawney)
Lee fore brace (Cecily Fox Smith)
Mingulay boat song (Hugh Roberton)
Padstow Farewell (aka Haul away your anchor)
Queensland whalers (Harry Robertson)
Sailors’ prayer (Tom Lewis)
Transports shanty (Peter Bellamy)
Wild goose shanty (aka Ranzo)
